Principle of operation
When operating, a super shallow flotation tank requires an additional high-pressure wastewater tank called a pressure tank. Wastewater after flotation will be partially put into this tank and air is compressed here at a pressure of several atmospheres to dissolve into the wastewater.

After that, the water from the pressure tank will be mixed with the wastewater stream that needs flotation and put into the flotation tank (atmospheric pressure). At this time, the amount of air dissolved in the wastewater at pressure will be released back into the atmosphere in the form of small air bubbles. These air bubbles will cling to the solid particles, creating force to lift these solid particles to the surface of the tank, then these solids are removed by the skimmer system.

Structure of DAF tank
Flotation tanks are usually composed of the following components:

DAF tank made of 304 stainless steel;

Flocculation flocculation system;

Pressure tank;

A/S ratio: 0.02 – 0.05;

Surface water loading: 20 – 325 m3/m2*day;

Retention time in pressure tank: 0.5 3.0 minutes;

Retention time in flotation tank: 20 – 60 minutes;

Recirculation rate: 5 – 120%.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF FLOATING TANKS
Advantage:
– If the DAF tank is well designed and coagulant is properly used, the SS removal efficiency can reach 95 – 99%;

– If the input amount of grease is from 1,000 – 16,000 mg/L, the output may be 5 mg/L (commonly about 15 mg/L).

Defect:
– High initial investment costs and complex equipment maintenance;

– Requires operators to be technical;

– Complicated structure, pressure control process is quite difficult.
